Laurent Rousseau discusses hurricanes, inflation and other market impacts.
In this interview with The Insurer TV, Guy Carpenter’s Laurent Rousseau, CEO, EMEA and Global Capital Solutions, describes how Hurricanes Helene and Milton, along with inflationary pressures, are expected to dominate discussions during the 2024 Baden-Baden Reinsurance Meeting.
Laurent described Hurricanes Helene and Milton as the likely “number one topic,” highlighting uncertainty over the direction of reinsurance pricing.
He also mentioned how inflation is expected to be a major talking point during the conference.
“Inflation impacts not just casualty, but also motor,” Laurent explained. “The focus at Baden-Baden is expected to be broader than the US, considering how long-tail lines of business globally have been impacted by insurance-specific inflation.”
He further discussed how secondary perils are a big issue in Europe, citing heightened risks in Greece and Italy. Laurent also expressed optimism about the booming catastrophe bond market.
“The property cat bond market has been extremely resilient and buoyant,” he said.
